Why you need an interior photographer by Jonathan Walland

Hiring an interior photographer can be expensive, and often one must consider if spending the money is worthwhile. This will explain why you need a photographer, and also how it will benefit you, in terms of gaining more clients, and adopting a more professional image.

A photographer is more than just a camera

The proficiency of a photographer is not reliant on how expensive his or her gear is, and rather on the years of experience they have backed up behind them. It takes a lot of time to learn how to use a camera properly, alongside tripods, lenses, and lighting setups. Professionals will work in manual mode on their camera, which means they are telling the camera what to do, not the other way round. Despite how easy it sounds to photograph a room, there are strict rules that must be adhered to and a photographer will know exactly what these are, and how to adhere to them.

Aside from physical gear, a good photographer will have hundreds of pounds worth of digital equipment, capable of better post production than what any app can replicate. Photographers spend years perfecting their digital skills, and each will have a varying style of editing. You should pick the one that represents your product most effectively, or make a request to the photographer.

Post production capability

In this example, the client requested that I change the color of the cooker and extractor fan to black. This was achieved in post production along with the long list of other enhancements which are visible in the before and after shots provided.

You won't find any plug sockets, noisy shadows, or converging diagonals when you hire a photographer to photograph your project. Your photos will be crisp, correctly exposed, and of a commercial standard, ready for use in magazines. The photographer will take care of these things so that you don't have to.

An interior photographer will know exactly how to light a room. They will have specialised equipment that can handle tricky lighting situations, and will also have the ability to properly create light if necessary.

Photographers have spent literally thousands of hours perfecting their skills. They spend thousands of pounds on courses and work tirelessly to stand out in an extremely competitive industry. Established professionals don't work for free. A photographer will charge what they feel represents the quality of their work. When you pay good money for photography, you know it will be worth it.

Hiring a photographer is an investment

You want your clients to view your product in the best possible light, hiring a professional photographer is the most effective way to do this. Being able to showcase your work in this way is the best way to attract new clients. There is no doubt that you will earn back the money spent on photography with new and returning clients.
